Your Help Needed With Study Looking At How Universities Transfer Knowledge To SMEs
A company commissioned by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC), to help with a study on technology transfer and information flow is looking for help from EnviroBusiness members. The aim of the project is to look at how effective the transfer of information from universities to SMEs is and how it can be improved to the benefit of small companies trying to innovate.
The project involves finding a selection of SMEs which have sought ‘grey literature’ information; reports, working papers, technical papers, etc, or published articles from British universities with the aim of using the information to help their work. The director of the study is looking into how businesses have been successful in locating the right information so that the steps taken may be repeated to reduce the incidences where universities sometimes fail to deliver.
The help needed is a short telephone interview with Alma Swan, Director of Key Perspectives Ltd. If this is an area where you have personal experience that you would like to relate back, Alma can be reached on 01392 879702.
WRAP Launches Two New Funding Sources For Waste And Recycling Sector
WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme), which is funded by UK Governments and works to reduce waste and encourage recycling, has launched two funding opportunities targeting the waste and recycling sector.
Environmental Transformation Fund (ETF) Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Demonstration Programme – this £10 million fund is the first of its kind in England and is being delivered by WRAP for Defra, with support from the Carbon Trust. It aims to develop cutting edge anaerobic digestion technology on a commercial scale by investing in infrastructure and treatment capacity. The fund will support between three to six projects in England. Each project must be able to demonstrate innovation, either in technology or through the operational processes.
The Organics Capital Grant Programme is a £16 million capital grant scheme offering funding towards the development of food waste recycling infrastructure, such as in-vessel composting, anaerobic digestion or other proven technologies. The programme is open to projects located in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland and aims to reduce the amount of food waste entering landfill by increasing the UK’s capacity to recycle these materials into quality products. The target is to fund 400,000 tonnes of new capacity by March 2011. There is more on both stories here.
