BOARD OF DIRECTORS

EnviroBusiness is governed by a Board of Directors made up of senior people coming from all areas of the Environmental Technologies and Services (ETS) sector in South East England.  The Directors range from heads of companies such as Broadway Malyan Ltd to senior policy advisers to government. The Board is responsible for the healthy functioning of EnviroBusiness and are committed to strategically driving the company forward.


Anne Crean, Chairman & Non-executive Director

Anne is one of the founder members of EnviroBusiness and was recently elected Chairman. As Chairman, she is committed to enhancing the company’s strategic relationship with SEEDA as well as focussing on the needs of EnviroBusiness Members and ensuring the delivery of high value-adding services to firms in the environmental technology and services sector in the South East of England. Anne is highly customer-focussed with a strong commercial acumen and her business values include building trust and respect, stimulating creativity and enabling staff to succeed and make a real difference.

For over 15 years, Anne has worked successfully as a Director in business and commercial environments, specialising in product & service innovation, technology & knowledge transfer, economic development and business transformation. Particularly relevant to the delivery of her new role is Anne’s 10 years at SIRA, a membership-based Research and Technology Organisation which supported business in the uptake and commercialisation of sensing and imaging technologies across environmental, defence, medical and manufacturing sectors. As Business Director at SIRA, she created a profitable business unit working on a large science management contract, leading multiple UK and EU government funded technology transfer programmes and directing innovation initiatives working with big business, academia and SME companies. She was also instrumental in forming an investment group that stimulated early stage technology investment opportunities for small companies. Prior to SIRA, Anne was responsible for global sales of bespoke optical spectroscopy and instrumentation solutions for industrial, defence, medical and environmental applications.

Anne has a good overview of Government and Industry drivers having been a member of a number of committees and advisory bodies including the inter RDA Enterprise Directors group and the Technology Strategy Board’s strategic advisory group representing London’s Science and Industry Council, Catalyst. From 2002 – 2006, she was also Chair of the Association of Independent Research and Technology Organisations’ Public Sector Group interfacing with HM Treasury, BERR, DERFA and the Research Councils [AIRTO is the largest community of techno-business consultants and contract research organisations in Europe with a combined annual turnover in excess of UK £1½ billion]. Anne was also a member of the Ministry of Food and Fisheries’ Advanced Manufacturing and Food Quality Programme Approval Board.


John Myers, Non-executive Director

Having spent the bulk of his professional career designing and delivering buildings, John joined Broadway Malyan in 2001 with responsibility for appointments, legal issues and risk management across the practice.  Prior to joining Broadway Malyan, John was a Director of Berkeley Homes (Kent) Limited and prior to that a Partner in an architectural practice in central London.


Donald Charlesworth, Non-executive Director

Donald’s career has seen 28 years in the Packaging/Paper Making/ Recycling sector of UK industry.  He has been the CFO for a large paper production business, a Company Secretary and has also been involved in planning, developing and leading very large internationally mobile projects. His early career was in various areas of banking both in the UK and overseas and he later moved his career into Accounting, working for a number of national and international companies. He is Chairman of a small manufacturing company, Director of a start-up company and has been a member and Director for Envirobusiness since 2005.


David Read, Non-executive Director

David helped to establish Envirobusiness South East and has been a non-executive director since 2005.

David is an environmental chemist who, for 25 years, has combined work in the commercial world with internationally recognised research into waste management. After completing his PhD (University College London, 1982) he moved first to the British Geological Survey and then to Cardiff University before joining WS Atkins, where he was Director of the Environment business. His remit included responsibility for the company’s Berlin office and he has worked on German land remediation programmes since that time.

In 1996 he founded a successful SME, which specialises in providing advice on contamination issues to regulators, government departments and large corporations. Much of the work is conducted in continental Europe and Japan, spanning the oil & gas, nuclear, defence, mining and agricultural sectors. The company promotes research into novel detection/clean-up methods and its products have won several awards for innovation.

David is an expert in the calculation and communication of risk, providing both university-based and industrial lecture courses on the subject. He is retained as an expert by the IAEA for whom he has conducted missions to the Ukraine, Portugal and Bulgaria. He currently holds two honorary professorships at the University of Aberdeen (Chemistry & Biological Sciences) and a visiting professorship at Loughborough University (Environmental Radiochemistry). He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers on various aspects of environmental science, risk assessment and the design of technology-based solutions for environmental applications.


Tim Haines, Non-executive Director

Tim Haines is a graduate in Human and Transport Geography and a full member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management. He spent his first ten years of employment in the aggregate supply industry before moving his interest into waste.  Tim has 13 years experience in the waste management and recycling sector in a variety of appointments in both national and, more latterly, regional companies within the South East.

In 2006, he formed his own company providing both commercial consultancy and operational management to a variety of waste management companies, predominantly SME’s within the South East region. 

More recently Tim has launched a further company aimed at delivery of assessment and training within the same sector and is also involved in trading and brokering of recyclable commodities.

In addition to EnviroBusiness, Tim is also involved in voluntarily supporting other non-for profit organisations including over 6 years advisory support to Remade South East.
